Rosh Hashanah emphasizes family and community. We gather around the table to wish one another an abundance of blessings and pray together for the greater good of community, the Jewish people, and the world at large. We often do this through a series of blessings around the dinner table. We wish the year to be as sweet as an apple dipped in honey and as abundant as a pomegranate filled with seeds, for instance.
Rosh Hashana marks the beginning of the Ten Days of Repentance. When we observe the mitzvah of blowing the shofar, our hearts and souls are opened up to search and reflect on our actions throughout the year.
