In recent days, we have witnessed severe attempts to disrupt humanitarian aid convoys to the Gaza Strip. These efforts have included throwing and destroying food, setting fire to convoys, stopping truck drivers for inspections, and even violently attacking them, as well as soldiers trying to prevent the attacks.
Such violent attacks are abhorrent and merit unequivocal condemnation. The attempt to prevent food from reaching those in need is immoral and contrary to Jewish values, violating the obligation “you shall not stand idly by” – לא תוכל להתעלם (Deuteronomy 22:3) and the prohibition of “you shall not destroy” – בל תשחית. Even in difficult times of war, we must not lose our humanity.
We call on law enforcement authorities to take decisive action against any attempts to obstruct the passage of humanitarian aid.
